Week 6

We have had a busy few weeks as a team.

We visited the Crow Museum on campus on February 11th. Ahead of class, our team shortlisted 5 objects for us to take a look at in person. We were taken into the giant room where the museum’s collection is stored. It felt quite special to be there. We were shown our objects and had to opportunity to ask questions about them as well. We decided to take the next week to vote on which artifact would become the subject of our animation.

I left the museum feeling inspired, both by the artifacts and also just looking at all of the art on display.

We ended up choosing a small painted sculpture of a dog. Our team would later name her Peanut.

We spent the next week preparing for the 18th, the day on which we were to pitch our animation concept to the client and take a lot of photos of our dog for photogrammetry purposes. Splitting up the work for that week felt a bit daunting and I was initially overwhelmed by all of the tasks we had to complete by class day. Thankfully, our group communicates very well and is generally open to taking on work that needs to be done. As the Scrum Master™, I was able to help coordinate our roles for the week: Jordan, Blaise, and Mahsa were to do practice photogrammetry and HDRI capturing, Josie was to work on our storyboard, and Richard, Michael, and I would work on our pitch presentation. The work went smoothly. I learnt a lot about how I wanted to organize our Miro board that week: I spent some time rebuilding the run-up chart and coming up with a system that would make processing the numerous tasks easier for me.

On the 18th, we gave our pitch and took our photos, Though the photography took longer than anticipated, both went well, I think. We received valuable feedback/insight from the client which helped us strengthen our story. I didn’t really participate much in the photography itself, but I processed all the images and uploaded them for our team to reconstruct our object. Peanut was given her name on this day.

The following week was spent reconstructing Peanut, reworking our storyboards and concept art, and putting together a preliminary animatic. Again, our team worked really well together to get all of the work done. All of our work has given us great material to continue working from. I did the animatic and though it turned out okay, I plan on giving myself more time for the next iteration so that I can really focus on every small aspect of it and start working on the shot list. In class on the 25th, we dissected the animatic and discussed ways to make it stronger for next time. Lots of other work to do as well with setting up the 3D scene. It will be a busy week.

Below are some images of Richard’s reconstruction of Peanut, Mahsa’s concept art, and Josie’s storyboards. :)
